Lifelong resident, president of Harvard Historical Society, avid reader and researcher

Douglas A. Cregar died Sunday, Sept. 26, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston. Doug was the beloved son of Royall and Sandra Cregar. He was a 1983 graduate of the Bromfield School, and he graduated from Niagara University in 1996, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts with concentrations in theater and management.
Doug’s interests included genealogy, theater, the Red Sox, and Harvard history. He was most passionate about the history of the town, and he was a board member and, at the time of his death, president of the Harvard Historical Society, where he shared his talents for bringing history to life. He was an avid reader and researcher who enthusiastically embraced learning new things.
Family and friends remember Doug as a kind, witty, and generous soul who always had a good word to say, and a story to share. Annually, he spent time in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, with his gang of longtime friends. In his younger years, Doug ventured across the country and would later regale his family and others with his adventures.
He is survived by his parents, Royall and Sandra (Richardson) Cregar of Harvard; his sister, MaryLee Daniels and brother-in-law, David Daniels of Williamstown. He leaves aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.
A service will be held for family and friends Sunday, Oct. 10, at noon at the Harvard Historical Society (the former First Baptist Church), 213 Still River Road, Harvard. The Historical Society will host a reception following the service.
