The state reported seven new COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending Sept. 9, bringing the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases to 174. During the week of Sept. 7, Harvard public schools reported three students with COVID-19 and two staff members who tested positive or were in quarantine.
According to the state’s weekly vaccination report, 4,008 residents in Harvard were fully vaccinated as of Sept. 9, up by 14 since Sept. 2. Another 309 had received one dose of a two-dose vaccine, four higher than on Sept. 2. Using the town clerk’s July 15 population data, the percentage of Harvard residents eligible for the vaccine (12 or older) and fully vaccinated as of Sept. 9 was about 80%. Another 6% were partially vaccinated. These numbers do not include Devens residents or inmates at its Federal Medical Center.
Statewide, between Sept. 7 and Sept. 14, confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 9,936, down from the previous week’s increase of 10,576. There were 70 COVID-related deaths that same week, up from 47 the week before. As of Sept. 14, 675 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19 statewide, up from 601 a week earlier; 170 patients were in ICUs, six more than last week.
On Sept. 14 the Bureau of Prisons website reported five cases among staff at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, but no inmate cases. As of Sept. 14, 691 of the facility’s 732 inmates had been fully vaccinated, as had 354 staff members. Since the pandemic began 352 of the current inmates have recovered, 65 staff have recovered, and 11 inmates died of complications from the virus.
