As this editorial is being written, Harvard students are saying farewell to their classrooms and scattering to begin a well-earned summer vacation.
The Press will begin a summer break of its own less than three weeks from now with publication of the July 9 edition of the paper. But before then, we’d like to pause and bid a fond farewell to Matt Flokos, who will be leaving us to embark on a new writing career in business.
What began as a summer internship following Matt’s graduation from Dartmouth College in 2017 evolved into a four-year reporting stint at the Press, during which he has become our eyes and ears on the work of the Planning Board and the person we turn to when the board’s work on town bylaws and economic development requires a lucid explanation. We will miss Matt’s expertise and wry sense of humor, and we wish him well in his new job.
The Planning Board and other land use committees play key roles in determining Harvard’s future and protecting its present. They constitute a beat the paper must cover, and we are eager to staff it. If you enjoy the challenge of translating difficult subjects into compelling prose and are fascinated by the ins and outs of municipal government, perhaps you’re the right one to fill that role.
