I’m writing this letter about the three candidates for the Select Board. I have several thoughts.
First, I applaud all three candidates for entering the race. Any Harvard resident who volunteers to serve the town should be commended. The responsibilities demand a lot of time and it doesn’t put bread on the table.
Second, three years ago, I wanted to add a deck by our back door, but since I live across from the Little Common, I needed to get approval of the Historical Commission. I coordinated with the chair, Pam Marston, and had several hearings with the commission. All members, including Richard Cabelus, were respectful to me, asked thoughtful questions, and made suggestions on how best to have the new deck blend in with the historic fabric of our 1795 house.
In 2020, I again saw Richard Cabelus at the Transfer Station and he was looking for signatures to run for office. I stopped and spoke with him for some time and was very impressed. He ended up not running for office. After doing some research, I sent Richard an email a month and a half ago, encouraging him to run for office. As you well know, he’s running for the Harvard Select Board. I hope he wins because my experience and instincts tell me that he’ll do a great job! Obviously I think highly of him.
