At 9:10 a.m. one tractor-trailer scraped another on Interstate 495, and a fuel tank ruptured. Firefighters from Harvard, Boxborough, and Bolton all worked together to keep the diesel fuel on the pavement and clean it up. Then they notified the state Department of Environmental Protection, which sent a crew to do a final cleanup.
Thursday, April 8
At 9:20 a.m. a caller reported smelling smoke near the intersection of East Bare Hill Road and Mettacomet Path. The fire officer on duty found that an East Bare Hill Road resident was wetting down the remains of a fire from the day before. At 12:43 p.m. 12 firefighters dealt with a quarter-acre brush fire on Old Mill Road, bringing the forestry truck, Engine 2, and the tanker to the scene. They brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes, but they were almost immediately called to a second brush fire at 2:06 p.m. on East Bare Hill Road. That fire was controlled in about 10 minutes.
Saturday, April 10
At 7:39 p.m. the officer on duty saw that a permitted fire on Old Shirley Road was still going and told the homeowner to put it out. (Such fires are supposed to be out by 4 p.m.)
Sunday, April 11
At 2:11 a.m. a 911 caller reported a two-car collision on Route 2 westbound. Engines 2 and 4 went to the scene, provided scene safety, and cleaned up the debris and fluids. No one was injured. At 5:41 p.m. a smoke detector on Shaker Road went off, leading to a 911 call; the fire officer on duty found the detector needed to be replaced.
