The state reported three new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending March 9, bringing the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began to 115. During the week of March 8, one staff member at Bromfield tested positive for COVID-19; no students at either school tested positive.
Statewide, cases are up for the first time in over a month. During the week between March 9 and March 16, confirmed cases increased by 9,657, up from the previous week’s increase of 9,314. There were 232 COVID-19-related deaths during the week ending March 16, down from 264 the previous week.
On March 15 the number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state was 619, down from 704 a week earlier. The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units also dropped over that week, from 185 to 164.
On March 16 the Bureau of Prisons website reported two active COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, the same number as last week. The number of active cases among staff remained at nine for the seventh week in a row. Since the pandemic began, 386 of the current inmates have recovered, 54 staff have recovered, and 10 inmates have died.
