The state reported five new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending March 2, bringing the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began to 112. During the week of March 1, one student at the elementary school and one staff member at Bromfield tested positive for COVID-19. Three people were quarantining due to close contact with someone who tested positive.
Statewide, cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are all down for the fourth week in a row. During the week between March 2 and March 9, confirmed cases increased by 9,314, down from the previous week’s increase of 9,759. There were 264 COVID-19-related deaths during the week ending March 9, down from 295 the previous week.
On March 8 the number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state was 704, down from 775 a week earlier. The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units also dropped slightly over that week, from 187 to 185.
On March 9 the Bureau of Prisons website reported two active COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, up from one last week. The number of active cases among staff remained at nine for the sixth week in a row. Since the pandemic began, 387 of the current inmates have recovered, 54 staff have recovered, and 10 inmates have died.
