The state reported two new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending Feb. 23, bringing the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began to 107.
Schools were closed the week of Feb. 15, so no testing took place there.
Statewide, cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are all down for the second week in a row. During the week between Feb. 16 and Feb. 23, confirmed cases increased by 10,206, down from the previous week’s increase of 12,577. There were 307 COVID-19-related deaths during the week ending Feb. 23, down from 436 the previous week.
On Feb. 22 the number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state was 879, down from 1,096 a week earlier. The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units also dropped over that week, from 275 to 225.
On Feb. 23 the Bureau of Prisons website reported two active COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, down from seven a week earlier. The number of active cases among staff remained at nine for the fourth week in a row. Since the pandemic began, 388 of the current inmates have recovered, 54 staff have recovered, and 10 inmates have died.
