The state reported six new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending Feb. 2, which brought the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began to 101.
Statewide, cases and hospitalizations are all down for the second week in a row, but deaths increased slightly. During the week between Feb. 2 and Feb. 9, confirmed cases increased by 16,747, down from the previous week’s increase of 20,761. There were 459 COVID-19-related deaths during the week ending Feb. 9, up from 432 the previous week.
On Feb. 8 the number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state was 1,401, down from 1,631 a week earlier. The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units also dropped over that week, from 353 to 324.
On Feb. 9, the Bureau of Prisons website reported 11 active COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, down from 17 a week earlier. The number of active cases among staff decreased from 11 to 9. Since the pandemic began, 376 of the current inmates have recovered, 54 staff have recovered, and nine inmates died, seven during an outbreak in December and early January.
School Superintendent Linda Dwight told the Press that COVID-19 testing in Harvard schools during the week of Feb. 2 showed zero positive results.
