Sand buckets available
Slipping on ice is a real threat. The COA has buckets of sand available to help keep walkways safe. Call the COA office to request one.
New Zumba class
The Bolton Council on Aging has invited Harvard’s COA members to participate in a new Zumba Gold class with instructor Deb Oliva Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Zumba Gold is geared to active older adults. It introduces easy-to-follow choreography focusing on balance, range of motion, and coordination. Call the COA office to sign up and receive the Zoom link for the class.
Story Slam features Pam Frederick
On Tuesday, Jan. 12, hear Willow Road resident Pam Frederick talk about her childhood growing up the oldest of six children in Franconia, New Hampshire. Frederick will share memories of farm life, skiing, horseback riding, and exploring the White Mountians.
Emergency help with rent and mortgage payments
Those who are having trouble meeting rent or mortgage payments because of the pandemic may be eligible to receive help. At Fall Town Meeting Harvard voted to transfer money from the Community Preservation fund to the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust fund for emergency rental and mortgage assistance. Call the COA office for more information.
A ‘psychological first aid’ kit for surviving the winter
In the coming months there will be more stay-at-home time because of winter weather and the surging pandemic. On Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 4 p.m. hear noted author Henry Quinlan discuss a “psychological first-aid kit” designed to mitigate the effects of stress and anxiety brought on by this lockdown.
SHINE offers changes to Medicare options
The open enrollment period for Medicare is over, but there is an opportunity during January through March for some enrollees to make a further change. Call the COA office to arrange to speak with a SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) couselor to discuss options.
Online fitness classes
All fitness classes are being offered online. Call for a Zoom invitation or to learn more.
- Weight strengthening/aerobics: Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.
- Line dancing: Monday, 10:15 a.m.
- Zumba Gold: Wednesday, 10 a.m.
- Stretch and tone yoga: Tuesday and Friday, 9:30 a.m.
Fuel assistance
Applications for fuel assistance can be made by calling the COA. The state gross annual income limits for fuel assistance are
- $39,105 for a household of one
- $51,137 for a household of two
In addition, Harvard offers a HEAT (Harvard Energy Assistance Team) program. If you are concerned about paying heating bills, let the COA know.
