Library hosts virtual storytimes and book groups
All virtual storytimes and book groups take place via Zoom. To learn more or to be added to a storytime or book group, send an email to childrensroom@harvardpubliclibrary.org and indicate your child’s age. There is a unique Zoom link for each meeting. These links are emailed to storytime and book group members the day before each meeting.

Devens Farmers Market
Stop by the Devens Farmers Market on Devens Common Wednesdays from 2:30 to 6 p.m. for fresh fruits and vegetables. Place an order online for a produce box ranging from $25 to $40. Healing Garden Walk & Ride
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden Cancer Support Center is hosting its annual Walk & Ride event as a virtual fundraiser through Oct. 18. Community members of all abilities can walk, run, bike, hike, or any other physical activity they choose, anywhere they choose. The event, “QuaranTEAM 2020: Walk, Run, Hike or Bike to Thrive,” raises funds to ensure that integrative therapeutic support programs and services are available to those affected by cancer. ‘Pete Seeger and the Blacklist’
On Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. the Warner Free Lecture Trust will host musician and author Edward Renehan for a Zoom event. Renehan will present an overview of a dark episode in American history with his book “Pete Seeger vs. the Un-Americans: A Tale of the Blacklist.” Get the Zoom link at www.warner-free-lecture.eventbrite.com.
Annual bazaar at Saint Benedict Center
The annual fall bazaar at Saint Benedict Center will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, with a few changes to keep everyone safe. In order to provide for social distancing, the event will be split into two locations.
The giant yard sale will take place as usual on the front lawn of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 282 Still River Road. The food booths and bakery table with baked and frozen apple pies will be across the road at 271 Still River Road. Please use the assigned entrances at both locations.
COA Story Slam with Sue Reedich
On Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m., the Council on Aging’s Story Slam will feature Sue Reedich with stories and photos from her experiences as a private pilot. To join this virtual event call the COA at 978-456-4120 to get the Zoom link.
Nothing stops the pies!
The traditional Congregational Church Apple Festival will go forward this year with a few changes. Following tried-and- true recipes and using apples donated by Carlson Orchards, teams of bakers will make traditional and streusel-topped apple pies for $15 each and Tuscan bean soup, vegetarian and gluten-free, for $10 a quart. All pies will be sold frozen. Preparation will be done at the church kitchen, where all health and safety precautions have been followed.

Run for the Hills (virtually!)
The Harvard Conservation Trust invites everyone to celebrate and support its mission of preserving Harvard’s natural resources by participating in its annual Run For the Hills (RFTH) event. This year’s event will be virtual. All are invited to participate by running, walking, or riding local trails during the weekend of Oct. 24-25. In lieu of a registration fee, a donation to the Conservation Trust will get you a 2020 RFTH T-shirt. More information, including course suggestions, is available at www.runforthehills.org.
