The state reported three new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending Oct. 21 and one new case for the week ending Oct. 29; the town’s cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began is now 26. To date, the Press has verified that two residents and two residents who moved away from Harvard just before the pandemic began died of complications from COVID-19. Statewide, during the week between Oct. 20 and Oct. 27, confirmed cases increased by 7,066, up from the previous week’s increase of 4,730. There were 127 COVID-19-related deaths during the week ending Oct. 27, up from 124 the previous week.
Locally, at Emerson Hospital, the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients decreased from six on Oct. 20 to two on Oct. 27. During that same week, the Memorial and University campuses of the UMass Medical Center in Worcester reported 12 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, down from 20 reported on Oct. 20.
In the week ending Oct. 27, the Bureau of Prisons website reported one active COVID-19 case among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens. The number of active cases among staff remained at two. Since the COVID-19 outbreak at the medical center, 45 current inmates and six staff members have recovered, and two inmates have died of complications from COVID-19.
