In the past week, police made eight motor vehicle stops, six of which resulted in verbal warnings and two in written warnings or citations. Police also issued one parking ticket near town center, and one person reported a disabled vehicle. Emergency responders received five medical calls: One was for a lift assist, and four people required ambulance transport to a hospital, one with Advanced Life Support services in attendance. There was also a request for a well-being check. Police issued or renewed four firearms licenses. They also responded to four false burglar alarms.
Tuesday, Sept. 15
At 12:23 p.m. someone came to the police station to turn in a set of lost keys. At 5:02 p.m. state police requested assistance from Harvard officers at a traffic stop on Ayer Road.
Wednesday, Sept 16
At 10:02 a.m. a caller reported someone was taking water from a fire pond near the intersection of Prospect Hill and Still River roads; an officer spoke with the person and told him the pond was on private property. At 6:41 p.m. someone phoned to say a tree branch was lying in East Bare Hill Road, and police notified he Department of Public Works.
Thursday, Sept. 17
At 3:29 p.m. a Woodside Road resident complained about an all-terrain vehicle driving up and down the street; the ATV had left the area when police arrived.
Friday, Sept. 18
At 5:36 p.m. a caller said a car was speeding on Still River Road, but again the vehicle was gone when police arrived.
Saturday, Sept. 19
At 5:51 p.m. an officer helped a person retrieve some belongings from a Bolton Road residence, in the wake of a civil dispute. At 8:22 p.m. Harvard officers assisted Ayer police with a fireworks complaint on Hatch Street in Ayer. At 11:52 p.m. a passerby called police with suspicions about two youths on Ayer Road near Smokey Bear.
Sunday, Sept. 20
At 10:28 a.m. an East Bare Hill Road resident came to the station to report a text message that appeared to be personal harassment; however, the message turned out to be a clickbait ad. At 1:46 p.m. a Littleton Road resident called to say someone who claimed to be a census worker had peered in her windows and been verbally aggressive. The person was gone when police arrived. At 6:04 p.m. an officer stopped Fang Li, 50, of Old Mill Road, for failure to yield at an intersection; Li was unable to show a driver’s license and received a summons for both infractions. At 6:46 p.m. a caller reported a reckless driver whose car was swerving “all over the road” near the center of town; Bolton police later apprehended the driver.
Monday, Sept. 21
At 9:16 a.m. police investigated a complaint from a resident about a scam call she had received that purportedly came from the Geek Squad at Best Buy. The resident allowed the caller to access her computer, and from it the scammer was able to reach the resident’s bank account. But when the scammer tried to move money out of the account, the bank blocked the effort. At 2:37 p.m. an Old Littleton Road resident called to report that someone had filed a fraudulent unemployment claim in the resident’s name. At 3:57 p.m. someone called 911 to say an erratic driver had gotten off Route 2 at Ayer Road; both Ayer and Harvard police looked for the car, but it had left the area. At 4:32 p.m. a 911 caller said someone in an older green Toyota was opening mailboxes on Old Shirley Road. Police found the person was leaving business cards in the boxes, which is against the law and can result in a fine. At 5:01 p.m. a Stow Road resident reported a scam phone call. At 6:11 p.m. a man and a woman were reported trespassing in the building at the Oak Ridge Observatory on Pinnacle Road; police found no damage had been done.
