Grew up in Harvard, finance manager, devoted to dog rescue

On Sept. 17, 2020, Mark E. Thurston of Umatilla, Florida, lost his brief battle with cancer. Born in 1955 to Bill and Ginny Thurston, he grew up in Harvard, attended the Harvard public schools, and graduated from the Bromfield School. He spent the majority of his adult life and family time in Virginia, where he gained a wonderful son-in-law and grandchildren, as well as adopting and raising a son and two daughters.
Mark always had a special place in his heart for animals, and every dog he “rescued” knew it right away. His compassion and sensitivity for people and situations contributed to his success as a finance manager for a car dealership. When he retired from that position, he made his way south to Florida where he lived in Sunlake Estates. There he met his life partner Debbie. With much love and creative talent, he spent his last seven years creating artscapes, adopting rescue dogs, and spending time with his soul mate, Debbie.
Mark leaves his father Bill, sisters Chris Thurston and Janet Thurston Gonski, and brother Bob Thurston, as well as the aforementioned special people. He was predeceased by his mom, Ginny, and stepmother, Pat. Due to the COVID complexities of 2020, he will be cremated and there will be no public memorial or service.
