Winter is coming and The Friends of the Thayer Memorial Library will hold an extended Annual Book Sale for 10 days with social distancing so you can stock up from Friday, October 2nd through Monday, Oct 12th Columbus Day. Hours are Saturdays 9 am to 4 pm, Sundays 12 to 4 pm and Weekdays 3 pm to 7 pm. Masks and 6’ social distancing are required and capacity limits are enforced. All proceeds benefit books, programs and events at the library.
Here’s your chance to help support your community library and take home some needed books for the cold months without the outside socializing. Over 600 boxes of books, DVDs and CDs are available and sorted into categories. This event is held annually the first weekend in October. Hardcover books are only $2, trade softcover $1 and standard paperbacks $0.50. ‘Fill a bag’ throughout the event Oct 2-4th for $25, Oct 5-9th for $15 and Columbus Day weekend Oct 10-12th for $10/bag. Friends Members receive $5 off per bag so if you are not already a member, you may become one at the sale. Credit cards are again accepted this year.
Volunteers from the Friends provide staffing during the sale and help sort the books prior to the sale. We could really use some additional help to make this successful if you would like to volunteer or donate, please e-mail friendsoftml@gmail.com.
The Friends exist to stimulate the interest of the community in the services and needs of the Thayer Memorial Library, to enrich the cultural life of the community and to promote a program of assistance through volunteer help and fund raising that will enable the Thayer Memorial Library to keep pace with the growth of the Town of Lancaster.

The Annual Book Sale is well attended every year, and the new guidelines from the Office of the Governor significantly reduce room occupancy and capacity limits. If you, or anyone you have been in contact with, are experiencing any of the following symptoms; fever or feverish, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, unusual fatigue, chills or body aches, please stay home.
All persons attending the book sale are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing at all times. Spacing between persons shall be no fewer than six feet.
Only visitors who are actively shopping for books are permitted in the sale. Shopping for your children while they stay at home is preferred.
Please sanitize your hands when entering, wash them after using the restroom, or after touching your face. Public sanitizers will be available.
Weather permitting, windows and doors will likely be opened, so dress accordingly and perhaps even bring warm gloves.
