Healing Garden Walk & Ride
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden Cancer Support Center will host its annual Walk & Ride event as a virtual fundraiser Oct. 4 through 18. Community members of all abilities can walk, run, bike, hike, or any other physical activity they choose, anywhere they choose. The event, “QuaranTEAM 2020: Walk, Run, Hike or Bike to Thrive,” will raise funds to ensure that integrative therapeutic support programs and services are available to those affected by cancer. Warner Free Lecture: ‘In Our Own Voice’
This year’s season of the Warner Free Lecture series starts Friday, Sept. 11, with “In Our Own Voice,” a 75-minute Zoom presentation by the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Cub Scout scavenger hunt and registration
All boys and girls in grades K through 5 are invited to the Harvard Cub Scouts scavenger hunt and registration Sunday, Sept. 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. Meet at the public library parking lot. Participants will drive around Harvard with their families and find clues. COVID-19 safeguards will be required. Townwide book read: ‘Just Mercy’
Arm in Arm will host its next townwide book read Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The featured book, “Just Mercy” by lawyer and social activist Bryan Stevenson, is a New York Times bestseller and has become a major motion picture.
The book recounts Stevenson’s efforts to reverse glaring mistakes in criminal justice cases. It focuses on the true story of Walter McMillian, whom Stevenson began representing in the late 1980s when McMillian was on death row. Registration is required prior to the event. Library trustees present virtual speaker event
The Harvard Public Library’s Board of Trustees will present a virtual conversation with Paul Tremblay, author of horror and suspense novels, Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 pm. Tremblay has won the Bram Stoker, British Fantasy, and Massachusetts Book awards and is the author of “Survivor Song,” “The Cabin at the End of the World,” Disappearance at Devil’s Rock,” “A Head Full of Ghosts,” the crime novels “The Little Sleep” and “No Sleep Till Wonderland,” and the short story collection “Growing Things and Other Stories.” The event is free. Apple Festival online this year
In lieu of its traditional Apple Festival, the Congregational Church of Harvard will offer frozen homemade apple pies and soup online Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 7-9. Pies and/or soup may be picked up at the church by appointment. Details for ordering will be announced soon.
Panel discussion on religion and environment
On Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. Arm in Arm will bring back its panel of representatives of the three Abrahamic religions for a different twist. This time the panel will focus on the environment and what each religion says about humankind’s responsibility. Join this Zoom event for a lively discussion and learn more about religion’s role in protecting Earth.

‘The Long Way Home’ photos at Museum of Russian Icons
