Conservation Trust offers free memberships and trail guides
The Harvard Conservation Trust is offering a free one-year membership and a copy of its trail guide booklet to residents who are not already members. To take advantage of this offer, send an email by June 30 with the subject line “new member” to info@harvardconservationtrust.org with your name and mailing address. Real estate and personal property tax payments due June 1
Due to COVID-19 the town of Harvard extended the due date of fourth quarter real estate and personal property tax payments to Monday, June 1, 2020. This applies only to fourth-quarter bills that were originally due May 1. Interest will still be applied to unpaid bills from the first, second, and third quarters.
To pay tax bills online go to www.harvard.ma.us/treasurer-collector, click the link labeled “Online Tax Payments,” and select Harvard from the list of towns. You may pay by electronic check, for which there is a $0.25 processing fee, or by credit card, for which there is a fee based on the payment amount.
Camp Sunshine clothing drive ends this Sunday
The annual clothing drive to benefit Camp Sunshine and the Epilepsy Foundation ends Sunday, May 31. Clothing items as well as shoes, backpacks, purses, fabric, sheets, blankets, and stuffed animals will be accepted. Put items in bags and drop off at one of these locations:
- St. Theresa’s Church, at the ramp at the side of the building
- Hildreth House, on the front porch
For every pound of clothing collected, the Epilepsy Foundation donates $0.20 to Camp Sunshine, a camp in Casco, Maine, for children facing life-threatening illnesses and their families. For questions, call 978-270-0151 or email 8whitelane@charter.net.
AAA reopens some Mass. offices
AAA Northeast is reopening some branch offices, while following strict social distancing procedures and CDC guidelines. Members may visit aaa.com/branches and enter their zip code to find the nearest open office.
Registry of Motor Vehicles services will be available by appointment only to members who complete an online reservation before visiting. Go to aaa.com/appointments. Members can schedule appointments up to two weeks in advance. Membership, insurance, travel, and financial services will be available, either in person or through a virtual meeting. In some cases, curbside service will be available. Due to staffing issues, some branches may remain closed or close on certain days; members are urged to check the website or call the branch prior to visiting.
AAA’s 24-hour emergency roadside assistance continues to be available throughout the COVID-19 shutdown.
Special State Election is Tuesday, June 2
The Special State Election to fill Jen Benson’s seat in the House of Representatives 37th Middlesex District will be held at the Bromfield School cafeteria Tuesday, June 2, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Republican Cathy Clark and Democrat Dan Sena are vying for the position.
Voters going to the polls that day will enter and exit using the outside cafeteria doors only. Disposable masks, gloves, and pens will be provided, and everyone must observe social distancing protocols.
Absentee and early voting ballots for this election may be requested by mail until noon on Monday, June 1, by completing the application at www.harvard.ma.us/town-clerk or by calling 978-456-4100.
Donate old vehicles to Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester, through its Cars for Homes program, is accepting donations of used cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, boats, RVs, farm or construction equipment, and motorcycles. If the vehicle no longer runs, Habitat will tow it at no charge. Net proceeds from the sale of these donations support Habitat’s mission to build homes for local families in need.
