Joanne Aspinall Sullebarger, a 50-year resident of Westfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully March 25, 2020, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she had lived since 2014.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, she attended the Vail-Deane School in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Douglass College, Mount Holyoke College, and Barnard College. She married Franklyn Sullebarger in 1951 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2016. In addition to being mother of three, Joanne applied her artistic talents to fashion modeling, interior design, and gardening. She obtained a certificate from the New York School of Interior Design. Her charitable activities included the Westfield Garden Club, the Junior League, and the St. George’s Society of New York. She enjoyed membership at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, New Jersey, and the Dorset Field Club in Dorset, Vermont, and was a championship golfer.
Joanne is survived by three children: Beth (David Edmundson) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. J. Thompson (Sutha Kulagnanam) of Tampa, Florida, and Robert (Elizabeth Canevari) of Harvard; and four grandchildren—Jeffrey, Melissa, William, and Jane. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Donald Aspinall Memorial Fund, c/o Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, or to a charity of your choice.
