With the close of town buildings and suspension of programs, the town’s senior tax workoff program has come to a temporary halt. According to Debbie Thompson, who oversees the program, nine residents over the age of 60 are participating in tax workoff this year, working in the schools, library, Town Hall, and at Hildreth House in various capacities. But with those buildings closed, they are unable to put in the hours they need. The tax workoff program pays $8 an hour for up to 125 hours, for a total of $1,000 per person off their property tax bills (minus tax requirements). The program allows for up to 10 participants. It runs from January to the end of November, so there’s still time to earn the maximum tax credit, as long as the shutdown doesn’t last too long
