With many of its windows already installed and more going in each day, the new elementary school building is now considered enclosed. Enclosure triggers a different set of health precautions, including regular temperature checks for all workers.
In an email to the Press, School Building Committee Chair SusanMary Redinger said safety arrangements at the construction site were being reviewed this week by an outside contractor, Maxim Health.
Redinger updated the School Committee on the project at Monday’s meeting via Zoom. She said about 40 people are working at the site every day, and all must have daily temperature checks. The current plan is to have those checks done by the two school nurses, Colleen Nigzus and Dawn French, who will split a daily shift that runs from about 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Their work would save the project about $800 a day—the amount Maxim said it would charge to do the checks.
Redinger also reported that the project is still within budget, although measures to protect against COVID-19 are yet another cost eating into the project’s contingency funds
