Longtime resident, elementary school teacher

Joanne M. (Wilson) Blue, 89, of Harvard, died Friday, April 17, 2020, at Pine Knoll Nursing Center, Lexington.
Her husband of 60 years, James L. Blue, predeceased her in November 2013.
Joanne was born in Worcester, October 21, 1930, the youngest and 12th child of Alexander and Phebe (Small) Wilson, and resided in Harvard for 67 years.
Joanne graduated from Worcester State Teachers College in 1953. Over the years she taught elementary school grades in Worcester and Littleton and spent her last 20 years of teaching at Hilltop School in Ayer.
She was a member of the Harvard Congregational Church, the NAACP, and the Esprit de Corps Club of Toastmasters International. In her early years in Harvard, she was a Sunday School teacher and Girl Scout leader and was involved in various community activities.
Mrs. Blue is survived by four sons, James L. Blue Jr. of Santa Rosa, California; John M. Blue and his wife Crystal of Hyannis, Joseph L. Blue and his wife Celia of Worcester, Jeffrey M. Blue and his wife Kendra of Framingham; two daughters, Joan L. Blue of Stoneham, Joyce B. Shand and her husband Devon of Worcester; and eight grandchildren. A ninth grandchild predeceased her. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
