Fivesparks offers online artist interviews

Spend a few minutes with artists John Daly and Emily Harris, whose exhibit Human Landscapes/Diverging Roads was on exhibit at Fivesparks, via interviews available for viewing at fivesparks.org. Produced by Harvard Cable TV, these interviews shed light on the artists’ inspiration. 

Other online offerings at Fivesparks include felting for all ages, felting for kids, and gentle movement and meditation. See fivesparks.org for dates, times, fees, and other details. Note that the felting classes require materials that may be picked up at Fivesparks, observing social distancing, the day before each class. 


Harvard Public Library programming for children and teens

The Harvard Public Library offers a variety of virtual programs and ideas to keep kids busy.

Go to harvardpubliclibrary.org to find current information about virtual (Zoom) storytimes and read-alouds, simple crafts, Lego Club meetings, book groups, lists of authors doing online children’s programs, YouTube videos, details about e-books and audio-books, and special book ideas for teens.


Museum of Russian Icons 

Visit the museum at museumofrussianicons.org for YouTube videos of the museum’s collections, stories for children, and tutorials for making icons at home. In addition the museum’s website includes links to the British Museum and PBS “Open Studio.”


deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum

Experience the deCordova Museum  and Sculpture Park from home with virtual visits of current exhibitions, live streamed story hours, sculpture park narration, lectures, and more. Go to decordova.org.


Fruitlands Museum

Join Fruitlands Museum curator Shana Dumont Garr on a short virtual tour of the “Pastoral Present,” a project in which visual artist Wilhelm Neusser altered the display of the museum’s permanent collection of Hudson River School landscape paintings with new paintings he made specifically for the space. Go to https://bit.ly/3adQb9V


Nashua River Watershed Association

As part of the Nashua River Watershed Association’s (NRWA) 50th anniversary celebration this year it is sharing a series of six short videos. Visit nashuariverwatershed.org to see them:

Indian Hill Music

 In addition, Indian Hill will hold its annual Performathon fundraiser online. Through Sunday, May 3, musicians are encouraged to create videos of themselves performing (or use a previously recorded video) for Instagram (60-second limit) or Facebook or YouTube (any length). ‘Earth Day in Your Backyard’

Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) will mark the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day celebration with an “Earth Day in Your Backyard” event on its website. SVT will post resources for the event during the week of April 20. With tools that can be used indoors, outdoors, or through a window, curious learners can hone identification skills for common birds and plants, design a new garden with native plantings to attract butterflies, and more. Emerson Hospital virtual run/walk

Emerson Hospital’s annual 5K Run/Walk will be virtual this year, taking place over a 15-day period, Friday, May 11, to Monday, May 25. Register at www.emersonhospital.org/5k. Over the 15 days, complete your walk in whatever way works for you—a bike ride, a trail run, a walk with a family member—always observing social distancing. Track your progress on Emerson’s Run/Walk Facebook page and encourage others to join the virtual event.
