The Bromfield girls and boys track teams both competed in the Midland-Wachusett (Mid-Wach) D League Championship meet Friday, Jan. 31, at Fitchburg High School.
The girls team placed second out of seven teams with 96 points, with team members placing in nine events. Senior Liza Toll won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.73 seconds; sophomore Pariss Eanglee placed fourth in the same event with a time of 8.15. In the 1-mile race, senior Tessa McClain won with a time of 5 minutes, 36.96 seconds, and junior Helena Justicz placed fourth with a time of 6:00.29. In the 2-mile race, McClain placed first; freshman Molly Squire placed fourth; and eighth-grader Marissa Flynn placed fifth with times of 12:01.28, 13:08.55, and 13:09.51 respectively.
Senior Sam Schoenberg placed first in the high jump with a height of 5 feet.
In the 300-meter dash, Schoenberg placed second with a time of 44.71, and junior Claire Stoddard placed third with a time of 45.73. Junior Hannah Beckman placed third in the 1000-meter with a time of 3:25.29. Toll, Stoddard, Eanglee, and Schoenberg came in first with a time of 1:59.27 in the 4×200-
meter relay. In the 4×800-meter relay, Beckman, Justicz, Squire, and junior Kaitlyn Ostrowski also came in first with a time of 5:27.49. Squire, Flynn, freshman Carolina Pizanom, and junior Annie Segaloff came in fifth with a time of 5:27.49.
The boys team placed fourth out of seven teams with 29 points. Team members placed in five events. Junior Jordan Colon won the 55-meter with a time of 6.90. In the 300-meter, Colon placed third with a time of 40.04, and junior Cole O’Neil placed fourth with a time of 40.07.
Freshman Liam Morrison placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.27 seconds. In the shot put, Nathan Woolcock placed sixth with a distance of 34 feet, 11.25 inches. In the 4×800-meter relay, sophomore Aidan Long, Woolcock, junior Angelos Psathas, and freshman Sam Secor placed fourth with a time of 10:24.62. In the 4×200-meter relay, Morrison, junior Matt Hendricks, junior Jelin Zhong, and O’Neil placed fifth with a time of 1:57.43.
Reflecting on the meet, Coach Greg Bourque said, “Everyone on both the girls and boys teams performed as well or better than expected, especially since we had a number of athletes who were pretty sick all week. … We also had a number of athletes who put in a phenomenal effort in order to place in their events and bring us some much-needed points.”
Members of both the girls and boys teams will compete at the MIAA Division 5 District E meet Saturday, Feb. 8, at Fitchburg High School.
