Over the past week, police made 14 motor vehicle stops, with 11 resulting in verbal warnings and two in written warnings or citations. The Ambulance Service responded to seven calls, taking seven people to area hospitals, three with Advanced Life Support services in attendance. Officers issued or renewed one firearm license and responded to three false burglar alarms.
Tuesday, Jan. 28
At 6:58 p.m. an Ayer Road resident called 911 to report suspicions about an SUV circling the parking lot behind Dunkin’ while the driver used a cellphone.
Wednesday, Jan. 29
At 11:31 a.m. Boxborough police asked Harvard for assistance in locating a man who was considered suicidal; the person was later located unhurt in Chelmsford. At 3:27 p.m. a woman on Lancaster County Road called to say she had found her neighbor’s missing dog and needed help to secure it; police notified the animal control officer.
Thursday, Jan. 30
At 2 p.m. someone called to report seeing a young man look through another person’s unlocked car in the General Store parking lot. The car owner and the young man had both left—separately—when police arrived and searched the area. At 4:09 p.m. a 911 caller said a person was driving erratically on Bolton Road, but police did not locate the car.

Saturday, Feb. 1
At 12:02 a.m. police notified the Department of Public Works that roads were becoming icy and it was time to begin sanding them. At 7:50 p.m. an officer spoke to a group of young people at the town beach, which is an area—along with the Prospect Hill overlook—where police say youths often gather to smoke marijuana, which is not legal in a public area or for anyone under 21. At 7:57 p.m. a caller alerted police that a car had crashed into a fire hydrant at the Bromfield School, resulting in a broken water pipe.
Sunday, Feb. 2
Shortly after midnight (12:05 a.m.) police again called the DPW to begin sanding the roads. At 12:40 p.m. Ayer police asked for assistance in taking a Marlborough man into custody.
Monday, Feb. 3
At 10:39 a.m. a resident of Old Shirley Road reported having given their Social Security number to someone purportedly selling life insurance by phone, which the resident now regretted. Police advised the resident to inform their bank and credit card company that the Social Security number was compromised. In another case of fraud, someone came to the police station at 2 p.m. to say American Airlines had told him that 190,000 of his airline miles had been stolen and used to buy plane tickets by someone with his user name and password; the airline is investigating. At 6:01 p.m. a Stow Road resident complained about a construction crew working next door; police investigated but took no action because no law was violated.
