I am writing to endorse Cathy Clark in the Republican primary for the race for state representative for the 37th Middlesex District.
Cathy is not a career politician. After Representative Benson announced her resignation, Cathy saw a need for a rational, compassionate, devoted person to serve, and after much thought and consideration, she threw her hat in the ring. To me, this is the ideal politician—someone who sees a need and rises up to take leadership when her community needs it; not someone who wants power just for power’s sake.
I first met Cathy Clark back in 2008, in the aftermath of the ice storm. She had a clipboard in hand and was collecting signatures outside the Lunenburg Post Office to hold Unitil accountable for their response. She’s been a strong, vocal advocate for municipal ratepayers ever since. Cathy is the one who called for the public hearing on the most recent Unitil rate hikes. She’s lived here in the 37th district for over thirty years, she’s been a small business owner here, she raised her family here, she’s been active in local area politics here. Cathy knows and understands our needs and how politics work in Massachusetts. That’s important in an elected official, that they know the people they are going to represent.
Politics has been growing more and more as a divisive topic. It’s strained relationships, hurt friendships, and caused tribulations on every side. But Cathy is kind, Cathy is compassionate, Cathy truly cares about people. That’s why I endorse her candidacy. She can work across the aisle, she treats everyone she meets with respect. Her politics are not extreme but rooted in an understanding and acknowledgement of the complexities of modern day life. It’s not about the “R” or the “D” next to your name. Cathy speaks her mind and tells it how it is—this kind of honesty in someone running for political office is refreshing and brings me hope.
On Tuesday, March 3, I encourage you to vote for Cathy Clark as your Republican candidate for state representative.
