The Bromfield swimming and diving teams traveled to Springfield College Feb. 9 to compete in the MIAA Division 1 Central/West Championships. The girls finished seventh among 27 schools in the district, while the boys placed 12th. Several Bromfield teams and swimmers are now preparing for the Division 1 state meet at Boston University this coming Saturday, Feb. 15.
Seniors Dwight Childers and Christopher Clark were among the top Central/West finishers. Childers placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle race, and Clark was eighth in the 100-yard freestyle race.
The girls were top finishers in several events. The 200-yard medley relay team consisting of senior Isabel Conners, juniors Abigail Boissy and Ella Church, and sophomore Catherine Zhou placed fifth in their event. The same foursome finished fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay as well. Standout individual performances by Church included a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke events. Bromfield’s lone diver, freshman Lily Tonole, was fourth in the 1-meter dive among 25 competitors.
Tonole will represent Bromfield in the 1-meter dive event at the state meet. The girls 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard free relay, and 400-yard free relay teams have all qualified and will also race there Sunday. Church will race in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle events, and Conners will compete in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke races.
The boys 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle teams will also race for Bromfield this weekend, as will Clark, who will enter the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races, and Childers, who will race in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley races.
