On Dec. 28 the Littleton Tigers boys ice hockey team, composed of players from Littleton and Harvard, won its fifth game of the season by beating the nonleague Hopedale Blue Raiders 4-3 at the Blackstone Valley IcePlex in Hopedale. The Tigers started the season with two losses against Dracut and Lunenburg but then came roaring back with a four-game winning streak.
Hopedale’s Tyler Lane scored the first goal of the game five minutes in, assisted by teammates Brady Butler and Nate Reneau. Just four minutes after the Blue Raiders’ goal, however, the Tigers had a three-goal streak. The first was scored by Bromfield sophomore Maddox Lizotte on a power play, assisted by Littleton freshman Dylan Lokken and Littleton junior Timmy Kelleher. Two minutes later, Lokken pushed past Hopedale to score the Tigers’ second goal with an assist from Lizotte. The final goal of the period was scored by Lizotte, with Bromfield senior Ben Hays and Littleton junior Aaron King assisting. The first period ended in the Tigers’ favor, 3-1.
The second period began with a Tiger goal by Littleton senior Nicholas Brown, assisted by Littleton junior Derek Peterson and King. Hopedale fought to catch up, and four minutes later the Blue Raiders scored their only goal of the second period. The goal was scored by Hopedale’s Nick Patterson, assisted by P.J. Gray and Hunter Dunn. The second period ended with a score of 4-2, the Tigers leading.
The final period brought a single goal for Hopedale six minutes in, scored by Jake Frohn and assisted by Matt Govoni and Butler. Throughout the game, both defenses made significant saves, with Littleton goalie Ben Canfield making 32 saves and Hopedale goalie John Tomaso making 23 saves.
As of Jan. 6, the Tigers had a 4-2 record and were second in the Coughlin Conference. Next up, the Littleton Tigers face off against Worcester Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. at the Buffone Arena in Worcester.
