Twenty-nine members of Bromfield’s girls and boys indoor track teams traveled to Boston last weekend to run, jump, and throw in the three-day Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Northeast Invitational meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, racking up new school records and personal bests.

Three of Bromfield’s girls were top finishers. Tessa McClain won the 1-mile race with a time of 5:06.39 minutes; Sam Schoenberg tied for third place in the high jump, with a leap of 5 feet 2 inches; and Liza Toll placed fourth in the women’s weight throw with a toss of 23 feet 2 inches.

Bromfield athletes also set four new school records, which included Toll’s fourth-place weight throw. Jordan Colon ran the men’s 300-meter race in 38 seconds, and Claire Stoddard set two records, running the women’s 200-meter race in 28.4 seconds and jumping 34 feet 2.25 inches in the women’s triple jump.

“Any day that you set four school records is definitely a great day, especially when it is paired with so many other personal bests from our other athletes,” wrote assistant coach and former Bromfield track star Ellis Toll.

Dozens of schools and more than 4,000 athletes throughout the region participated. The two teams were scheduled to compete next against Lunenburg High School in Fitchburg Jan. 15.
