In the past week, police made two motor vehicle stops, both resulting in verbal warnings. They also responded to four medical emergencies, all of which led the ambulance squad to take people to area hospitals, two with Advanced Life Support services in attendance. In addition there was one call to help someone who had fallen and another for a well-being check. Officers also responded to four false burglar alarms.
Monday, Nov. 25
At 11:45 a.m. a caller said a tree was leaning against utility wires on Mettacomet Path; National Grid was informed. At 7:34 p.m. a resident reported having a flat tire in the library parking lot; an officer checked and said the car was in a safe location.
Tuesday, Nov. 26
At 7:23 a.m. a Westcott Road resident called after seeing two hunters with rifles crossing her property. Police checked the scene and found the hunters’ vehicle but did not locate the hunters; the state environmental police officer for the Harvard district was informed. At 8:01 a.m. a caller reported a collision on Ayer Road. A southbound vehicle making a U-turn was struck by the car behind it. Police say the U-turning vehicle left the scene, which, although it was not considered at fault, it should not have done. The second vehicle was reportedly totalled. At 9:30 a.m. an officer on patrol saw a yearling moose on Depot Road. At 4:14 p.m. a Myrick Lane homeowner called 911 to report smoke in the basement; both the fire and ambulance services responded. An overheated water pump was found to be the source of the smoke. At 7:20 p.m. an officer on patrol told a driver at the Prospect Hill overlook to move along because the area was closed. A 911 caller at 7:31 p.m. reported a burning car on Route 495 northbound. Both Harvard and Bolton emergency services responded. The Bolton ambulance took an injured person to a hospital.
Wednesday, Nov. 27
At 10:01 a.m. a 911 call came from Foxglove Apartments at 253 Ayer Road, where a service company was testing the elevator; the “emergency” call registered for a different address on Ayer Road, so the police corrected the address. At 12:58 p.m. a car and a tractor-trailer collided on Route 495 southbound; emergency services from Harvard, Bolton, and Boxborough all responded; no one required ambulance transport. At 4:31 p.m. someone on Blanchard Road called to report that an unfamiliar pickup had been parked in their neighbor’s driveway.
Thursday, Nov. 28
At 5:45 p.m. a caller reported a large branch had fallen on Poor Farm Road; an officer was able to clear it away. Another fallen branch was reported on Tahanto Trail at 6:05 p.m., and it was cleared by someone in the neighborhood. At 6:31 p.m. an officer on patrol saw a car parked behind the Bromfield School and told the occupants to move along.
Friday, Nov. 29
At 8:16 a.m. a caller reported a car parked at Bowers Brook apartments; the caller was concerned that someone was in the car without heat. Police checked and found the car was running, the heat was on, and the driver was just resting for a bit.
Saturday, Nov. 30
At 10:45 a.m. several callers reported a collision with serious injuries on Ayer Road near the Appleworks building. A northbound car had crossed over the center line and crashed head-on into a southbound vehicle with four occupants. A woman from the southbound car was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with Advanced Life Support services in attendance. The driver of the northbound car, who was cited for marked lane violations, was taken to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Sunday, Dec. 1
At 12:52 a.m. a driver reported having struck a deer on Still River Road; the deer had to be euthanized and DPW removed its carcass. Snow moved into the area in the early evening, leading to a spate of vehicle mishaps as road conditions deteriorated. At 5:01 p.m. a 911 caller reported a car had rolled over onto its roof on Oak Hill Road; the driver refused ambulance transport, and the car was towed. At 6:06 p.m. a person came to the police station to report leaving a disabled car at the Hillside Garage for the night. At 6:57 p.m. someone called 911 to say a car had slid off Stow Road and into a ditch; the car was winched out a little later. Another car needed a tow at 9:22 p.m. after a mishap near the intersection of Pinnacle and Old Littleton roads. At 10:29 and 10:40 p.m. callers reported two more disabled vehicles, one on Ann Lees Road and the other left overnight at the Ayer Road post office.
Monday, Dec. 2
At 10:32 a.m. a caller said a chocolate Lab with a broken leash was running loose near Fairbank Street. Another disabled vehicle was reported on Littleton Road at 11:20 a.m. At 3:58 p.m. someone alerted police to a one-car crash on Route 2 westbound; state police responded, as did fire and ambulance services from both Harvard and Littleton. At 6:28 p.m. a Federal Express truck was reported stuck on Depot Road. Ayer Police called at 10:08 p.m. to request assistance at a disturbance in an apartment in Ayer.
