This past Saturday, Dec. 14, the Bromfield boys and girls swimming and diving teams took on the Nashoba Regional High School Chieftains in their first meet of the year. The teams met at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, and Bromfield was the victor. The final result for the boys was 90-76, while the girls outswam and outdived the Chieftains 114-69.
Several members of the team—which includes athletes from Littleton and Ayer Shirley as well as Harvard— had personal victories. Harvard freshman Lily Tonole, the team’s sole diver, qualified for the MIAA Division 1 state championship meet next year with a 219.37 point 1-meter dive, and freshman Tate Brown set a personal record of 1:10.21 minutes in the 100-yard backstroke. Ten relay teams and individual swimmers qualified for the MIAA Division 1 Central/West sectional meets in February, and a majority of the team met the time requirements for the Midland-Wachusett League meet in January.
With a 1-0 record for both boys and girls teams, and many of the athletes qualifying for higher competitions so early in the season, the future looks bright. Bromfield is set to take on Wachusett Regional High School on Friday, Dec. 20.
