Fuel assistance
The heating season is here, and applications for Fuel assistance can be made now. The state gross annual income limits for fuel assistance are
- $37,360 for a household of one
- $48,855 for a household of two
In addition, Harvard offers a HEAT (Harvard Energy Assistance Team) program. If you are concerned about paying heating bills, let the COA know.
Gentle Zumba class for seniors
Come try out the new Gentle Zumba class made just for seniors. Move to dance steps set to Latin music, and get your exercise while having fun. $4 per class; first class is free.
Learn about your
iPhone or iPad
COA’s computer volunteers will offer a course on the fundamental and advanced features of iPhones and iPads. The course will consist of four hour-long sessions. The first two are Friday, Nov. 8, and Friday, Nov. 22, each starting at 12:20 p.m. Attendees should bring their own device. Sessions are limited to 10 participants.
Saturday shopping in Boston
COA shoppers will travel to Boston Saturday, Nov. 9, for a visit to the Boston Christmas Festival. The festival hosts artisans from all over the country with their unique handmade wares. There is something for everyone, and in all price ranges. The van leaves Hildreth House at 9 a.m. and returns late afternoon. Tickets are $16 paid at the gate. Van fee is $5.
Bob’s turkey dinner!
Celebrate Thanksgiving with COA friends Thursday, Nov. 14, at noon at St. Theresa’s Church. The menu includes turkey prepared by Bob’s Turkey Farm and all the fixings. This annual event will fill fast; reservations must be made by Nov. 7.
Greek lunch in Lowell
Enjoy a trip to Lowell’s historic Acre neighborhood Monday, Nov. 18, for lunch at the Olympia Restaurant, which specializes in traditional Greek specialties. The van will leave Hildreth House at 10:30 a.m. and return around 1:30 p.m. Van fee is $2.
Medicare open enrollment
Medicare open enrollment is Nov. 15 through Dec. 7. This is the time to review your current health coverage and compare plans. SHINE, a program of Minuteman Senior Services, can help make health insurance decisions. It offers free health insurance counseling for Medicare beneficiaries of all ages through a network of state-certified staff and volunteers. For an appointment call 978-456-4120.

The COA welcomes all area veterans to a continental breakfast Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 9 to 10 a.m.
Thanksgiving blessing
On Thursday, Nov. 21, we will have a special blessing before our noon meal by our bereavement counselor, Lucia Camara from Nashoba Nursing. Camara will also lead us in a discussion about how we cope around the holidays when remembering those we have lost.
‘America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Parade’
The COA will travel to Plymouth Saturday, Nov. 23, for America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Parade. The day features decorated floats representing historic events from every period of American history, from the 17th century to the 21st. The van will depart Hildreth House at 8:30 a.m. and return in the afternoon. The van fee is $5; there is no entrance fee.
