In the past week, police made three motor vehicle stops, all resulting in verbal warnings; helped one driver who was locked out of a vehicle; and assisted two people with disabled vehicles. Police also responded to three medical emergencies, one of which led the ambulance squad to take a person to an area hospital. In addition, there was one request to help a person who had fallen and two calls for well-being checks. Officers also responded to six false burglar alarms.
Tuesday, Oct. 29
At 9:39 a.m. a car going west on Route 2 struck a deer; Harvard’s firefighters and EMTs were initially called, but Littleton services cleared the scene.
Wednesday, Oct. 30
At 12:13 a.m. a driver on Littleton Road reported a pickup truck that was being driven erratically and weaving, as well as having a broken, hanging taillight. Police checked the area but did not find the pickup. At 12:27 p.m. a Fairbank Street resident called to say someone had failed to do work the resident had paid for. Police told the caller how to file a civil complaint. A West Bare Hill Road homeowner called the post office to say someone seemed to be looking in mailboxes along the road. A postal worker in turn called the police, who checked the area but did not find anything amiss.
Thursday, Oct. 31
At 7:57 a.m. someone called to report smoke coming from a utility pole on Mass. Ave. National Grid was called and dealt with the problem. Police reported a successful Halloween, with no complaints during trick-or-treating. Officers delivered 89 bags of candy and treats to houses around the Common, all in strong, reusable bags that can be returned to the police to save for next year. Pleased trick-or-treaters reported receiving an unusual number of full-size candy bars. At 10:22 p.m. someone on Candleberry Lane phoned with suspicions about a car parked nearby; police checked and found nothing wrong. After 10:30 p.m. high winds led to reports of fallen tree branches or downed wires on Scott, East Bare Hill, and Ayer roads.
Friday, Nov. 1
Residents continued to phone about fallen branches, trees, wires, and other road hazards all across town from the early morning hours until mid-afternoon. At 2:25 a.m. an alarm company notified police that a burglar alarm had been activated at a Woodside Road house. An officer went to the house and awakened the resident, who had not heard the alarm. At 11:24 a.m. a Bowers Road resident phoned to ask police to check on a vehicle in the area; the driver turned out to be a private investigator at work.
Saturday, Nov. 2
At 1:59 a.m. an officer on patrol noticed a car parked at the Prospect Hill overlook; the officer spoke to the occupants and sent them on their way. A Littleton County Road resident called at 6:56 a.m. about hearing gunshots. Police checked the area and concluded the noise came either from the Harvard Sportsmen’s Club or some nearby hunting areas. At 10:16 a.m. an officer responded to a burglar alarm at a home on Sherry Road, only to find the alarm had been set off by a bird in the garage. A Shaker Road caller at 1:46 p.m. reported that a black Lab was missing; sadly, someone later found the dog had died. At 10:38 p.m. someone called to say an unfamiliar vehicle was pulling into driveways on Old Littleton Road; police searched the area with no result.
Sunday, Nov. 3
Police checked a house on Shaker Road at 11:16 a.m. after receiving a report that the lights had been on overnight while the owner was away; nothing was amiss.
Monday, Nov. 4
At 10:43 p.m. a driver called to say a falling branch had broken the windshield as the driver was traveling on Shaker Road.
