The Bromfield boys varsity soccer team’s winning streak ended this week with a 1-0 loss to Algonquin Regional High School. The Trojans had a mixed record the previous week, winning against Lunenburg 7-2 and battling Sutton to a scoreless tie. The Trojans played the Lunenburg Blue Knights Oct. 2 on Lunenburg’s home field. The game against the Sutton Sammies was a home game played Oct. 4 at Harvard Park. The Trojans’ overall record is 8-1-2, and as of Oct. 8, they are first in the Mid-Wach D League.
The first game against the Lunenburg Blue Knights presented the Trojans with many scoring opportunities. The team scored three of its seven goals in the first half. Bromfield senior captain Pasha Sahin scored the first goal, with an assist from classmate Eli Fishbein, about 20 minutes into the game. The Trojans’ second goal came 10 minutes later, scored by senior captain Will Armstrong. Armstrong was assisted by sophomore Geraghty Vellante. The last goal of the half was made by Bromfield junior Jordan Colon, assisted by junior Angelos Psathas.
The second half began with Bromfield junior Jack Yu scoring within the first two minutes, assisted by junior Alex Jorgensen. The Blue Knights fought back, and five minutes later they scored their first goal of the game. Bromfield responded with its fifth goal 18 minutes into the second half, scored by Yu and assisted by sophomore Ryan McNulty. Ten minutes later, the Blue Knights scored their second and final goal. The Trojans followed up with two more of their own, the final goals of the game. The first was made two minutes after the Blue Knights’ goal by Fishbein and assisted by junior goalkeeper Ethan Fitzsimmons. The second was scored six minutes later by Colon, assisted by Fitzsimmons.
The game against the Sutton Sammies, a traditional Bromfield rival, was hard-fought, but ultimately neither team got the upper hand and the game ended in a tie, 0-0.
Next up, Bromfield will face off against the Littleton Tigers Thursday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. at Littleton High School. Following this game, Bromfield will face the Maynard Tigers Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at Harvard Park.
