Trojans win two, tie two to finish soccer season first in league

The Bromfield boys soccer team played four games between Oct. 19 and Oct. 28, winning two and tying two as their season came to an end. The Trojans’ overall record was 12-1-4 for the season, and the team remained first in its Mid-Wach D League.

The first of the four matches was against the Groton-Dunstable Crusaders at Groton-Dunstable Regional High School and ended in a 2-1 victory. Groton-Dunstable scored first, 22 minutes into the first half, but Bromfield tied the score barely a minute later. Bromfield senior captain Will Armstrong scored the goal, assisted by sophomore Jayden Liu. The final Bromfield goal was scored in the second half by senior Eli Fishbein, assisted by senior Pasha Sahin.

The Trojans played their next game Oct. 22 against the Oakmont Spartans on Oakmont’s home field. Bromfield scored two goals in the first half. Sophomore Ryan McNulty scored first, assisted by Armstrong. Bromfield junior Angelos Psathas scored the second goal, with an assist from freshman Alex Myles. In the second half, the Trojans blitzed their Oakmont opponents with three more goals. The first and second goals were made by Armstrong with assists by McNulty, and the final goal was scored by junior Jordan Colon, shutting out Oakmont 5-0.

On Oct. 25, the Trojans battled the Westborough Rangers on the Rangers’ home field, a match that ended in a 1-1 tie. Bromfield scored first, 17 minutes into the first half. The goal was Armstrong’s, with an assist by Fishbein, and it was the only Trojan goal of the game. The Rangers fought back and scored once with six minutes remaining in the half.
In their final game of the season, played Oct. 28, the Trojans fought Hudson to a 1-1 tie at home.

The team has qualified for the MIAA Central Division 2 playoffs. The tournament schedule is expected to be announced by the end of this week.
