Tip #24: Hard-to-Recycle Items

How do I recycle corks, tires, Styrofoam, art supplies, hard plastic, foil-lined power bar wrappers, and hundreds of other hard-to-recycle items?

The Ayer Recycling Committee runs an annual Recycle Your Reusables event each October, open to all. The tentative date for 2019 is Oct 26. Information available at: https://recycleyour reusables.wordpress.com. Click on “Accepted Items” to see the eight-page list of items you can drop off; most are free.

This recycling tip is brought to you by the Transfer Station Committee.

Editor’s Note: To gain entry and dispose of trash at Harvard’s Transfer Station, residents must purchase an $80 sticker. The sticker entitles residents to dispose of recyclable glass, paper, metal, plastic, textiles, and books at no charge. But they must purchase specially marked bags for the disposal of nonrecyclable materials. Bags are available at Westward Orchards, the Harvard General Store, Harvard Outdoor Power Equipment, Bolton Orchards in Bolton, and Shop ’n Save in Ayer. Each week, the Press publishes a tip to help readers reduce the volume of their trash, while increasing the volume they recycle.
