During the past week, police made five motor vehicle stops, four of which resulted in verbal warnings. Officers also responded to seven medical emergencies, requiring five people to be taken to area hospitals, two with Advanced Life Support services on board. An officer helped one person with a disabled vehicle. Two false burglar alarms were called in.
Tuesday, August 6
At 6:38 a.m. a caller reported a low-hanging utility wire on Woodside Road. Police called National Grid. At 11:49 a.m. someone’s medical alert pendant was accidentally activated at Hildreth House, and police responded.
Wednesday, August 7
At 11:23 p.m. someone called 911 to say a car had gone off the road and into the woods on Old Shirley Road, struck a tree, and then left the scene. The tree remained partially in the road. Police found the car’s license plate at the site of the crash and identified the owner, an Ayer resident. Ayer police interviewed the driver, who said he had swerved to avoid an animal. Harvard police determined the driver had been at fault, in case he made an insurance claim. The DPW removed the tree.
Thursday, August 8
At 8:41 a.m. an officer stopped a car near Stow Road because it had leaked fluid on Mass. Ave. all the way from the center of town. The Fire Department put sand down to absorb the liquid. At 6:53 p.m. a Prospect Hill Road resident called police about a confrontation with a motorist who she said had driven over part of her lawn and then acted in an intimidating manner. An officer explained her options if she decided to pursue charges against the driver.
Friday, August 9
At 8:27 a.m. a Harvard officer was called to help Acton police with an accident reconstruction, and later in the morning the same officer helped Milford with a similar matter.
Saturday, August 10
At 5:58 p.m. a driver called to say she had struck a pole on Pinnacle Road. Police reported the incident to National Grid. A 911 caller at 8:52 p.m. reported a crash on Route 2 eastbound, and Harvard police responded, along with the fire and ambulance crews. One person was injured, and the ambulance took the person to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Sunday, August 11
At 12:06 a.m. Ayer police asked for Harvard’s assistance for a person who thought someone was trying to break into the house. The Harvard officer found two people talking loudly in a nearby driveway and asked them to be more considerate.
Monday, August 12
At 12:18 p.m. a Slough Road resident called police to say that someone was dumping trash in his dumpster without permission. The resident said he would take action if it happened again. A dog walker who came to a home on Stow Road called police at 2:51 p.m. to report finding the back door unlocked and a screen out of place; it also sounded as if someone was in the house. An officer checked the house and found everything in order. At 3:41 p.m. someone called to say a large tree had fallen into the road near the intersection of Ayer Road and Myrick Lane. Police notified the DPW to remove the hazard.
