The Press is back from break, and so is most of our locally grown produce! Farmstands are once again brimming with tomatoes, corn, blueberries, peaches, and all sorts of other goodies that are just in from the fields. But it won’t last forever, so it’s a good time to match “what’s being picked” with “what’s for dinner.” Here are this week’s offerings from local farmers.
Carlson Orchards, 115 Oak Hill Road
Pick-your-own blueberries and peaches. In the store, peaches and nectarines, along with Brookdale Fruit Farm’s bicolor corn, tomatoes (including organic cherry tomatoes), cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, onions, green beans, yellow beans, peppers, zucchini, and summer squash. Check the website or Facebook page for updates. Store is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pick-your-own hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Doe Orchards, 327 Ayer Road
Pick-your-own blueberries. At the stand, yellow and white freestone peaches, blueberries, Doe’s honey, blueberry jam, and sunflowers. Open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
Old Frog Pond Farm, 38 Eldridge Road
Blueberries, green beans, tomatoes, eggs, and blueberry jam at the self-serve stand. All fruits and vegetables are certified organic.
Westward Orchards, 178 Massachusetts Avenue
Pick-your-own blueberries. In the store, blueberries, strawberries, and yellow and white peaches. Tomatoes (regular, heirloom, and cherry), lettuce, kale, collard greens, eggplant, Japanese eggplant, broccoli, summer squash, zucchini, mixed-color peppers, wax beans, peas, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, beets, and herbs. Store is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., pick-your-own containers available till 4 p.m. daily.
Willard Farm, 218 Still River Road
Bicolor corn, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini, and summer squash at the self-serve farmstand.
