In early May, Elm Commission and Harvard tree fund volunteers planted 11 sugar maples, one elm, and eight oaks at Ryan field and the parking lots at Bromfield and the Harvard Public Library. Of the 20 trees, 19 are part of a Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation/National Grid state grant. Thanks to the Department of Public Works for digging holes and upgrading the soil without hitting any ledge. Volunteers will soon spread wood chips and then water the young trees for three years.
