The Bromfield Trojans defeated the North Middlesex Patriots 4-1 last Wednesday, May 29, at home, the last homefield game of the year for the Trojans.

Bromfield junior Jake Elliot pitched a complete game and struck out 11 North Middlesex players. Sophomore Tommy Nigzus was also a key player. He contributed to two of the Trojans’ runs, and batted in another, aggressively stealing bases throughout the game.
Neither team scored until the bottom of the second inning with one run from Bromfield. After Elliot was tagged out at first, Nigzus earned a walk. By the time the next batter, sophomore Zack Pelak, also earned a walk, Nigzus had already stolen third base. When sophomore Ethan Fitzsimmons hit the ball, Nigzus ran home.
The third inning passed with no runs. In the fourth, North Middlesex scored its only run of the game. This tied the game 1-1.

In the fifth, Pelak added another run for Bromfield, and in the sixth, Bromfield jumped further ahead. Nigzus made a significant play this inning: a run-batted-in double. Pelak then attempted to get on base with a bunt and was tagged out at first. But Nigzus made it to third base, setting himself up to run home when freshman Owen Fitzsimmons hit a single.
North Middlesex was unable to make a comeback at the top of the seventh, so the game ended 4-1 Bromfield.
The Trojans played in four more games last week. After the win over North Middlesex came a 15-0 loss against the Advanced Math and Science Academy Thursday, May 30. The team then won 10-1 against Oakmont Friday, May 31. Next was Quabbin, which defeated Bromfield 9-1 Saturday, June 1. Finally, the Trojans faced Lunenburg Monday, June 3, and lost 4-3. These games concluded the season for Bromfield baseball. The team ended with an overall record of 8-11 and a league record of 2-6.
