Over 225 people participated in the 2019 townwide roadside trash cleanup and garlic mustard pull. This is the fourth year that we have organized the event, and the first time volunteers had to plan around rain. And yet, to date, volunteers have reported collecting 331 bags of trash and garlic mustard, only a slight decrease from last year’s 349.
We want to specifically thank the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts for their continuing participation. This year both the Bromfield Acton-Boxborough rowers and the Bravehearts worked to clean up the Transfer Station. Thank you to the Select Board for the financial support. And, of course, thank you to Tim Kilhart and the DPW crew who collect the bags from Harvard’s 69 miles of roads. The cleanup wouldn’t work without DPW’s help.
We continue to be overwhelmed by the support for this activity. Thank you, volunteers; you make this a success. And finally, thank you to all of Harvard’s residents who pick up trash on our roads all year long.
