The Bromfield Trojans just managed to pull through for a win against the Lunenburg Knights 12-11 April 30 at Lunenburg’s home field. The game began with the Knights pulling ahead in the first three quarters, but Bromfield securing the end score in the final 12 minutes.
The Knights scored three goals in the first quarter, managing to dodge both Bromfield’s defense and freshman goalkeeper Logan Reed. However, Bromfield’s offense got up by the Knights’ goal with about four minutes remaining in the quarter. Eighth-grade Ayer Shirley attackman Greg Canning gained an opportunity for a goal and sent the ball straight into the net, with an assist from Maynard sophomore attackman Sam Hills. Hills was the player with the most goals and assists in the 2018 season. The first quarter ended 3-1.

The second quarter brought four more goals for Lunenburg, much to Bromfield supporters’ dismay. The first two Knights’ goals happened minutes into the quarter. Bromfield responded with a goal when Canning sent the ball into the net three minutes into the period, without an assist, although it was off a rebound from Bromfield senior midfielder Ian Miller. The Knights scored two goals within a minute of each other at the seven- and six-minute marks. Seconds after the Knights’ seventh goal, Lunenburg face-off player Seamus Gordon was ejected from the game when the referee believed he hit Maynard sophomore faceoff player Aiden Young on the head. About two minutes later, Canning scored again without an assist, for his third goal of the night. The second quarter ended 7-3.
In the third quarter, each team scored two goals, making it the lowest scoring quarter. Bromfield scored first, with Hills seizing the opportunity to send the ball into the net without an assist. Two minutes later, Hills scored the team’s fifth goal. The third quarter ended 9-5.

Bromfield’s offense ruled in the fourth quarter, with seven goals to Lunenburg’s two. Canning scored four goals in the final quarter, making him a key player in the game. Hills sent the ball into the net twice more. Miller had three assists. Ayer Shirley junior attackman Joey Robinson had two assists.
The Bromfield boys lacrosse team has a record of 7-5 as of May 13. The next game is scheduled for May 16 at 4 p.m, when Bromfield will face off against Hudson, on Hudson’s home field.
