It was a beautiful sunny day in the neighborhood last Saturday. We were thrilled to see so many new and familiar faces at our Harvard Garden Club plant sale. Many individuals and organizations helped us. Most of all, we appreciate the generosity of Westward Orchards, which allows us access to their property for weeks to pot 1,000 perennials and then gives us ample room for the sale at their Mass. Ave. Farm Stand (and offers their cider donuts and coffee throughout). The boys of Scout Troop #1 helped with boxes and wagons to carry plants to cars; Girl Scouts helped to organize pricing records. Lions Club members managed parking and traffic (and provided significant roadside assistance to a local customer with car trouble). Members and others in town donated plants from their own successful gardens.
For those who came to the sale: You can see evidence of your support all over Harvard in plantings at Town Hall, the Harvard Historical Society, post offices, libraries, and schools; at monuments in the town center, and in graduation flowers every year. The Garden Club also provides grants for local groups (such as raised garden beds at the COA) and sponsors student art shows. We support local conservation projects, reduced-fee passes for regional gardens and museums, gardening books for the Harvard Public Library, and garden therapy/holiday arrangements for those in nearby assisted-living groups. We thank you for making all these things possible by your plant sale purchases and hope to see you again next year.
