It was a busy week with many driving violations and medical emergencies. Officers told the Press that warmer weather and snow-free roads have led drivers to pick up their speed—sometimes too much. During the past week, police made 13 motor vehicle stops, with nine resulting in verbal warnings and three with written warnings or citations. They also responded to 13 medical emergencies, with the ambulance crews taking 10 people to the hospital, four with Advanced Life Support on board. Officers also helped two drivers with disabled vehicles and issued or renewed one firearms license.
Tuesday, March 26
At 12:35 p.m. Harvard officers helped Boxborough police deal with a man who was creating a disturbance.
Wednesday, March 27
Late in the morning, officers helped with safety measures and traffic control at a major fire in Berlin through the area’s mutual assistance program.
Thursday, March 28
At 11:37 a.m. an officer saw a young man wandering around the Oak Ridge Observatory on Pinnacle Road. The officer told him he was trespassing and escorted him off the property. Harvard’s canine population is enjoying the warmer weather outdoors, and at 1:46 p.m. a caller reported a dog loose on Lancaster County Road. At 8:34 p.m. another caller told police a large, white dog was roaming near Prospect Hill Road. Both cases were referred to the animal control officer.
Friday, March 29
At 11:20 a.m. police, firefighters, and an ambulance crew responded to a one-car accident on Stow Road. The person who was thought to be injured refused transport to a hospital. The driver was cited for failing to stay within the proper lane, and the car was towed. A resident of Jacob Gates Road called 911 at 9:48 p.m. to say a black bear was in her backyard. (Hibernation is officially over.)
Saturday, March 30
At 12:50 a.m. an officer spoke to the driver of a car parked at the Prospect Hill overlook; the area closes at dusk. At 4:39 a.m. Harvard officers again helped their Boxborough counterparts, this time in dealing with an argument that was escalating.
Sunday, March 31
Nothing of significance to report.
Monday, April 1
At 1:21 p.m. a caller reported a speeding car on Brown Road near the intersection with East Bare Hill Road; police searched the area, but the car had left. A caller reported a one-car crash on Harvard Road in Bolton at 1:49 p.m., and the ambulance crew and police responded; a person refused transport to the hospital.
