July 4th field events at risk; volunteers needed!
The Harvard 4th of July Committee needs volunteers to coordinate field events and to coordinate/judge the bike-decorating contest. Without coordinators, we can’t include field events or bike decorating in this year’s festivities. These positions are fun and are a small time commitment . . . just a few hours to organize beforehand and on the day of the event. T-ball registration now open
The Harvard Youth Baseball and Softball Association has announced that registration is open at www.harvard youthbaseball.org for children aged 4 to 6 who would like to play T-ball this spring. The season will start May 4 and will run every Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. through June 15, with the exception of May 25 (Memorial Day weekend).
To introduce children to T-ball, bring them to “Have a Ball” Saturday, April 27, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ryan land. This free event is co-hosted by the Harvard Family Association. If you have questions or if you would like to volunteer to coach, email jc_ac1@msn.com.
Rabies clinic at town garage
The Nashoba Associated Boards of Health (NABH) has scheduled a rabies clinic for Saturday, April 7, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Harvard town garage. Cats must be brought in cages or closed boxes during the last half of the clinic. The charge per immunization is $15. Contact the NABH at 978-425-6675 with any questions.
HES kindergarten registration open
Full-day and half-day kindergarten registration is now open at HES. To enroll your child, go to hildreth.psharvard.org to download pertinent documents and to sign up for an appointment Thursday, May 2, or Friday, May 3.
Please bring to your appointment all documents including the Harvard Public Schools registration packet, your child’s recent physical exam, immunization records, birth certificate, and proof of residency. Both you and your child will attend to complete the registration process, meet with school staff to share academic and developmental history, and to complete an academic screening with a kindergarten teacher. Voter registration deadline April 12
The last day to register to vote for both the May 4 Annual Town Meeting and the May 7 Town Election is Friday, April 12. The town clerk’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
Community resilience workshops coming soon
Harvard has received a $35,000 grant for fiscal 2019 as part of the state-sponsored Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program, designed to help protect communities from the hazards associated with climate change. A Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Steering Committee (MVPSC) has been working to identify key community assets and critical risks to focus on, and to develop potential strategies to protect them. This process requires input from the community. The MVPSC is hosting two community-wide workshops to make this happen:
- • Workshop #1 – Thursday, April 11, 6 to 9 p.m. at Town Hall. This session will ask participants to identify Harvard’s most important resources and assets, and discuss vulnerabilities with respect to climate change (floods, drought, power outages, storm damage, invasive species, etc.)
- • Workshop #2 – Thursday, April 25, 6 to 9 p.m. at Town Hall. This session will build on information gathered in the first workshop, prioritizing assets in terms of risk, and discussing possible mitigations or strategies to act on.

Ginny Thurston Scholarships available
The Select Board will offer financial assistance to Bromfield seniors through the Ginny Thurston Scholarship fund, which was established in 2000. Letters of interest are due no later than Friday, April 26. Interested students should go to bit.ly/2TKWdql or the Bromfield guidance office for additional information.
Beach stickers available
To make beach operations run more smoothly, the beach director asks residents to purchase beach stickers by going to bit.ly/HTBparking. Stickers may be purchased at the beach, but there will be an extra charge of $5.
