The Harvard Conservation Trust will distribute silky dogwood seedlings at the Transfer Station Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to noon, and on the Common Sunday, April 28, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. A medium-sized deciduous shrub, silky dogwoods have reddish stems that turn brownish-gray as the shrub matures. Its yellowish-white flowers form clusters, which give way to porcelain-like blue fruit in late summer. Many bird species are attracted to them. It is a great plant for a hedge or border and can grow well in naturalized landscapes in gardens. The shrubs are free to Harvard Conservation Trust members and are available to non-members for a $5 contribution.
