Town Caucus will nominate candidates
The Town Caucus to nominate candidates for Harvard’s 2019 Annual Town Election will be held Monday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room. There is a quorum requirement of 25 registered voters. Nominations require a Harvard registered voter to nominate a candidate and another to second the nomination. Up to two people receiving the highest number of votes for an open seat will be nominated by the Caucus. Open seats are:
- Moderator – 1 position for 1 year
- Select Board – 2 positions for 3 years
- Library Trustees – 2 positions for 3 years
- School Committee – 1 position for 3 years
- School Committee – 1 position to fill vacancy until 2021 Town Election
- Warner Free Lecture Trustees – 2 positions for 3 years
- Warner Free Lecture Trustees – 1 position to fill vacancy until 2021 Town Election
Census Bureau is hiring
The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people across the country to assist with the 2020 census count. There are a variety of temporary jobs including census takers, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff. Second MVP Workshop
Harvard’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Steering Committee will host its second workshop for agricultural stakeholders in the Town Hall meeting room Saturday, March 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop is open to the public and is particularly focused on participants who farm and people with some agricultural knowledge or interest. Bleed #ForTheThrone!
To celebrate the final season of Game of Thrones and to encourage urgently needed blood donations, HBO and the Red Cross have partnered to ask fans and blood donors to “Bleed #ForTheThrone.” Those who donate blood or platelets with the Red Cross now through March 17 will be entered for a chance to win one of five trips to the season 8 world premiere of “Game of Thrones,” including travel for two, two nights’ hotel accommodations, and a $250 gift card for expenses. Additionally, those who donate by March 12 will receive a Game of Thrones T-shirt, stickers to unlock a unique Snapchat filter, and other items, while supplies last.

Excise taxes due
2019 motor vehicle excise tax bills have been mailed and are due Thursday, March 21. If you did not receive a bill, please contact the tax collector’s office at 978-456-4100. Payments can be made at Town Hall by check or online via Unipay at harvard.ma.us/home/pages/online-payments. Failure to pay an excise tax bill may prevent the registered owner from renewing a driver’s license or registering another vehicle.
Calling all teens interested in babysitting
Local teens interested in babysitting for families with newborns to 6-year-olds are invited to a “babysitting meet and greet” event Tuesday, March 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Village Nursery School (VNS), 40 Poor Farm Road. Students can meet and interview with families from the Harvard Family Association and VNS who are looking for babysitters. Experienced sitters as well as those interested in being mothers’ helpers are welcome. RSVP is required by March 12. 2020 transportation plan seeks input
The Montachusett Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) is starting the public outreach process for its 2020 Regional Transportation Plan. Visit mrpc.org/montachusett_2020_rtp for more information and how you can get involved or provide feedback. The plan deals with transportation-related issues including
- Local mobility such as senior shuttles or shuttles to mass transit stations
- Park and Ride lots
- Sidewalks, bikeways, and trails
- Dangerous roads or intersections
- Bridge maintenance
MRPC has opened a survey asking for public feedback. It has also created a series of comment apps where you can navigate a map and place a comment on the map where an issue of interest is located. Go to bit.ly/2UdhA4H to access the survey and apps.
