Mount Wachusett Community College offers scholarships
Applications for a wide array of scholarships from the Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) Foundation are open to current and future MWCC students. There are more than 50 named scholarships and some that are specifically for MWCC students preparing to transfer to a four-year school.
Tom Denney Nature Camp registration open
Registration for the Tom Denney Nature Camp, a nonprofit summer day camp sponsored by the Bolton Conservation Trust, is open. The camp is for all students entering first through eighth grades and offers fun and learning in Bolton’s Bowers Springs conservation area. There are five weekly sessions that run July 8 through Aug. 9, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Before/after care is available. There is no residency requirement. Scholarships are available. ‘Learn to Skate’ comes to Harvard
Learn to Skate, a U.S. Figure Skating Association program, is coming to Harvard’s outdoor rink beginning Saturday, Feb. 16, weather permitting. The 45-minute classes will be every Saturday, 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Signup is Saturday, Feb. 16, immediately before the first session. There is a one-time fee of $20 per child (minimum age 3), no matter how many classes the child attends. Bring your own equipment; helmets are mandatory. Classes are taught by competitive figure skaters from the Colonial Figure Skating Club. Space is limited to 15.
Keep pets safe during coyote breeding season
Coyotes are normally shy and elusive, but during the mating season they become territorial and may attack dogs of any size. Residents who enjoy walking their dogs in our open spaces are cautioned to be wary. Coyotes have a healthy fear of humans, so keeping your dog close by and leashed at all times should keep coyotes at a safe distance.
Food drive for Loaves & Fishes
Harvard Girl Scout Troop 30741 is sponsoring a food drive for the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry. Drop-off boxes are located at the library and around town. For at-home pickup call Grace Miller at 978-456-0135. In addition to food, personal care items are needed: Ensure (all types), feminine protection products, Depends, diapers, shampoo, and conditioner.
Traffic safety poster and video contest
Students in grades K-12 are invited to enter AAA Northeast’s annual traffic safety poster and video contest. Visit www.AAA.com/postercontest to view the rules, deadlines, and grade-level themes, which include pedestrian, bike, child passenger safety, and safe driving practices. Entries will be judged on a state-by-state basis and from each of three grade levels (elementary, middle school, and high school). First, second, and third place winners will be awarded $300, $200, and $100 respectively. First-place entries will be eligible for an additional $1,000 grand prize.
Bromfield Cares collects ‘Bags of Hope’
Bromfield Cares 2023, the 8th-grade service corps, is collecting items to make “Bags of Hope” for homeless individuals in our region. The following items are needed: toothpaste, toothbrushes, band-aids, socks, hats, gloves, energy bars, bags, mats, water bottles, feminine products, baby wipes, and other essential items. Drop donations off in the labeled boxes in front of the main office or throughout the middle school wing now through March 15. Life support/CPR course offered
Always On Call Health Services® Inc. will offer the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support/CPR for the Health Care Provider course Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 285 Central Street in Leominster. This course is geared for people who work in the health care field, day care providers, and nursing school students. Registration is required in advance at 978-537-9900 ext. 114.

Red Cross issues emergency call for blood
The American Red Cross is reissuing its emergency call for blood and platelet donors to give after snowstorms, frigid temperatures, and the government shutdown further reduced lifesaving donations. Eligible donors, especially platelet donors and type O blood donors, are urged to help restock the shelves for patients.
