The Bromfield/North Middlesex ski team raced at Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford Tuesday, Feb. 5. This race was a slalom race and the fifth of six total races in the season.
The girls varsity team had a great run as all six skiers “completed clean runs under soft, challenging snow conditions,” said Coach Raymond McCarthy. Four of the six varsity girls finished among the top 20 skiers: sophomore Evelyn Bagley placed ninth, senior Sage McFarland 14th, senior Izzi Barton 16th, and sophomore Sadie Kieran 17th. Colleen Makosky and Anais Caro achieved personal best results, finishing 34th and 36th. Overall, girls varsity finished fourth out of eight teams. The girls increased their season record to 17-17-1, moving them up to fourth place in the Alpha Division in Mass Bay West Ski League.

The boys varsity team had four racers in the top 15, consisting of senior Jack Donaldson, first; senior Patrick Keiran, ninth; sophomore Alex Lebish, 11th; and sophomore Gavin Maddalone, 13th. The boys did not have a fifth racer and earned no points for that slot, limiting their point total to 370 and leaving them in fifth place for the event. Overall, the boys team is first in the division of eight teams total, with a season score of 30-5. Behind them is Westford Academy with a season score of 26-9. In third place are Acton-Boxborough tied and Newton South, tied with a total score of 25-10.
The boys JV team also had a successful run. Junior Josh Boswell of North Middlesex won the JV race and obtained a new personal best in slalom, placing 19th overall. Seventh-grader Oscar Pride placed second in the JV race and also gained a new personal best overall in slalom, placing 23rd.
The boys varsity team has high hopes for qualifying for the Bay West League championships. The sixth and final race is next Tuesday, Feb. 12. McCarthy said, “If we can finish next week’s race in fourth place or better, which is well within what we’re capable of achieving, then we control our own destiny, regardless of what any of the other teams do next week.”
