Sam Smith of Littleton County Road has pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and battery and been sentenced to one year of probation, closing an 18-month-old case of alleged sexual assault. The plea agreement was filed Oct. 16, 2018, in Clinton District Court following negotiations between Smith’s lawyers and Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Kilmurray, the state’s prosecutor.
The original complaint was filed April 21, 2017, and charged Smith with six counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14; three counts of reckless endangerment of a child; and one count of providing alcohol to a person under 21. In the October plea agreement, two of the six counts of indecent assault and battery were reduced and the remainder were dismissed. Smith was sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to stay away from one of the victims as well as the Acton facility where the infraction occurred. He is also required to submit to a mental health evaluation and undergo any treatment recommended by the examiner. Under the law, Smith is not a sex offender and is not required to register with the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board.
