Parker is accepting applications for next year’s enrollment
The Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School in Devens is accepting applications for enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year. All applications must be received by Feb. 1, 2019. For more information about the Parker Charter School and the enrollment process, visit theparkerschool.org.
Girl Scouts are collecting mittens, hats, etc.
Girl Scout Troop 30892 is collecting mittens for children in need. Bring a pair of child-sized mittens to the children’s room at the library to hang on the mitten tree. In addition to mittens, the Scouts will welcome hats, gloves, and scarves. All donations will go to “Cradles to Crayons,” an organization that provides children living in homeless or low-income situations with essential items. More than 140,000 children across Massachusetts are served by this organization.
The Scouts will deliver the donations Dec. 12 and participate in the “Giving Factory” to prepare packages for delivery. Stop by now through Dec. 11. For any questions, please email Janice Kennedy at kennedyshome@charter.net.
Toys for Tots collection
Donate now through Dec. 13 to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to give less fortunate children a reason to smile. New, unwrapped gifts can be dropped off at the following Devens locations:

- Devens Department of Public Works, 99 Buena Vista Street
- Devens Fire Department, 182 Jackson Road
- Massachusetts State Police, 59 Buena Vista Street
Support programs at the Healing Garden
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden Cancer Support Center, 145 Bolton Road, announces winter cancer support programs for individuals, their families, and caregivers. A range of services is available, including movement and strengthening classes, estate planning workshops, mindfulness training, and cancer support groups. Expressive arts workshops aimed at helping patients process and release emotions are also available, including mind-body sound therapy, writing for wellness, and sand painting. Winter programs run through Feb. 28, 2019.

Bravehearts and HFA host ‘Fill the Treehouse’ toy drive
Bravehearts/Friends of Dylan Connelly and the Harvard Family Association (HFA) will host a toy drive Sunday, Dec. 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the home of Todd and Jennifer Currie, 279 Littleton Road. Come enjoy some cookies and hot cocoa and help fill the Currie’s treehouse with toys for children in need. The toys will all be donated to Sherry’s House, a home-away-from-home for children and their families battling childhood cancers.
Bromfield Cares needs gifts for ‘Giving Trees’
The Bromfield Cares student organization has put up two “Giving Trees” at the Bromfield School. Paper mittens on the trees contain gift requests for children in need. Some mittens request toys; others request staples like shoes or clothes. Please stop by the main office at Bromfield now through Friday, Dec. 14 with a wrapped gift to match a mitten. Unwrapped toys and monetary donations are also welcome. Gifts will go to children from one of several local shelters and programs, including Transitions at Devens, LUK in Fitchburg, and DCF.
Harvard agricultural survey
The town of Harvard, through the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Steering Committee, has posted a survey of agriculture intended for local farming or agricultural operations of any size and anyone else interested in local agriculture.
